Paul Merryman applies his visual curiosity of structure, order and transformation that are underlying qualities of nature to create his work. He is fascinated with the constant flux intrinsic in nature.  As he begins a new work, a visual relationship develops between the artist and the materials which guides him towards the completion of his artwork. This relationship is a fluid process of give and take which prompts intuitive responses as he discovers the path towards the artwork’s completion. The resulting artwork, often an accumulation of numerous layers, physically embodies a composition of structural order in flux.

Paul Merryman earned his Bachelors in Fine Arts at the University of California Los Angeles in 1986.  His work has been exhibited in Michigan, Minnesota and throughout California.

In 1984, Mr. Merryman was awarded a commission by the U.C.L.A. Olympic committee to produce a large mural that was installed in the Olympic Village Housing on the U.C.L.A. campus, during the 1984 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, CA.  His work has been published in Westwind Arts, National Collegiate Arts Review and the “Art takes Miami” 2012 artist catalogue.

Paul was born in 1963 in Torrance, CA.  He has lived and worked in Los Angeles, CA; Oakland, CA;  Ann Arbor, MI; and Hoboken, NJ.  Paul currently resides and works in Moraga, CA.
